Biography

Saxophone/flutist John Alexander is a jazz composer and performer in the Charlotte, NC area.

He performs regularly at The Double Door Inn, Blue Restaurant and Bistro, and other public settings as well as weddings and private parties in Charlotte and the surrounding area.

In early 2001 Alexander began an association with St. Stephens A.M.E. Zion Church at Unity Place in Gastonia, NC where he participates in Sunday morning services, performs with the Cassell Singers, and works with young instrumentalists in the church.

A graduate of the University of Miami with a Master of Music degree in Jazz Pedagogy, he teaches saxophone performance and jazz improvisation at several schools in the area, and has several private students.  His students compete for and are often selected to positions in the annual All District and All State Bands sponsored by the North Carolina Music Educators Association.

Alexander was awarded a Regional Artist grants by Charlotte's Arts & Sciences Council in 2000 and in 2006.
